The purpose of the Division shall be to:

  1. Contributing to the advancement of techniques and the competence of its members by performing concentrated scholarly or professional practice research and sharing technical information, and serving as a subject matter resource;
  2. Affording members the opportunity to share their experiences and concerns and to promote their common goals through meetings, surveys, research, publications, and participation in APA efforts;
  3. Creating a network of planners to contribute to the promotion of county planning interests, concerns, practitioner skills, and the competence of its members, where learning, research, advocacy, and interaction serve to advance the capacity of planners to work meaningfully and ethically within county planning and enrich the role of planning in building communities;
  4. Increasing the understanding of sustainability as a key element of public policy formulation at all levels of government;
  5. Disseminating materials and information about current county planning practice and theory to members of the Division;
  6. Assisting and educating APA about legislation; planning policy; and membership welfare, which may include but is not limited to workplace fairness, diversity, equity, and inclusion programs and benefits, and opposing discrimination that affects county planning based on statements and policies adopted by APA;
  7. Facilitating connections with Divisions, Chapters, and other professionals and professional organizations that are concerned with county planning; and
  8. Promoting professional communication among members of the Division through a variety of member services, such as newsletters, conference sessions, workshops, webinars, research papers, and other publications
