Our Division seeks to strengthen relationships among county planners, county elected officials, and other county personnel by facilitating the sharing of technical information, encouraging continuing professional development of its members, researching county planning issues, and building strong ties with other organizations and disciplines with related interests. The division strives to elevate appreciation of county planning as a unique niche within the planning profession.

🤖 Introduction to AI & Ethics in County Planning
The County Planning Division is hosting a free educational webinar to provide county planners nationwide with a comprehensive understanding of the AICP Code of Ethics and its applications with Artificial Intelligence. This session will explore AI’s role in county planning, its ethical implications within local governments, and how it aligns with the AICP Code of Ethics. Speakers will discuss AI fundamentals, feasibility, and practical applications for planners. The discussion will also cover real-world examples of AI integration in planning departments and strategies for responsible implementation.

🥇 2024 County Planning Awards
The APA County Planning Division has launched its 2024 Project Awards Program to recognize outstanding planning projects from counties nationwide.
- The program highlights county agency projects where planning has positively impacted development, conservation, government, or environmental initiatives.
- The Planning Project Award recognizes county projects completed within the last two years.
- The Comprehensive Plan Award recognizes achievements in county planning in the following areas:Â Best Practices, Grassroots Initiatives, Small/Significant Area Planning, and Special Focus Planning that combines Smart Cities/Sustainability, or Infrastructure/Transportation.
- The submission deadline is November 1, 2024, and award winners will be notified before the end of the month.
